ASTM F2028 Glenoid loosening test*
We offer you a test method to evaluate the fixation strength of the
glenoid component in the bone and the resistance to subluxation due to a
cyclic movement (eg. superior-inferior or anterior-posterior) of the
humeral head against the edge of the glenoid according to the test
standard ASTM F2028. With this test method, both cemented monolithic and
modular glenoids or uncemented reverse-glenoids can be tested.
The glenoid is fixed with bone cement in a bone substitute material and the humeral head is placed in the glenoid. An axial load is applied to the glenoid and the humeral head moved in opposite directions to determine the maximum displacement until dislocation. Subsequently, the humeral head is moved at a speed of max. 50 mm/min over 100.000 cycles in opposite directions, until 90% of the displacement at luxation is reached. The axial displacement at the edge regions of the glenoid (rocking) is recorded. The experiment is carried out dry or in water at 37°C.
