ASTM F 1147 Tension testing*

ASTM F 1147 specifies a static test set-up for testing the tensile strength or adhesive strength of coatings. The coating is produced on the end face of a cylinder, which is bonded to a second cylinder according to a specified protocol before the test.

The opposing, bonded layers are precisely aligned with their contact surface in the load axis of the testing machine in order to ensure pure tensile stress. The samples are suspended by double cardan joints to decouple any constraining forces.
