ASTM F 1044 Shear strength*

The static testing of the shear strength of coatings is described in ASTM F 1044. The bonding of the samples and the alignment of the samples in the testing machine correspond to the dynamic tests.

The opposing, bonded layers are vertically aligned with their contact surface in the axis of action of the testing machine in order to ensure pure shear stress without bending. The specimen grips are attached to double cardan joints to decouple constraining forces.
